Canva review 2026: Free, Pro at US$144/year and Business at US$250/year per person, how the Standard, Premium and Ultra AI allowance works, AI Pass, licence rules, trial and refunds.

Canva is the design tool most people reach for first: a browser editor with millions of templates, a stock library, video, docs, whiteboards and now a heavy layer of AI. Canva says it is used by more than a quarter of a billion people every month. The free plan is genuinely usable, which is exactly why the question most readers have is not whether Canva works, but whether paying for it is worth it and which plan to pick.
A lot changed between 2024 and 2026. The old Canva Teams plan is now legacy and has been replaced by Canva Business at US$250 per person per year. AI is no longer an unlimited perk: it is metered in three tiers, Standard, Premium and Ultra, with a US$100 per month AI Pass for heavy users. Canva AI 2.0 and Canva Offline launched at Canva Create in April 2026, and Affinity became free. This review walks through the plans, what the AI caps really mean, and the licence, trial and refund fine print you should read before you pay.
Use the free plan first, then upgrade to Pro or Business when you need premium templates, Brand Kits and a bigger AI allowance.
For one person, Canva Pro at US$144 a year is still one of the best-value creative subscriptions available. It unlocks the premium library, Brand Kits, Magic Resize, Background Remover, social scheduling and 100GB of storage, and it gives you unlimited Standard AI plus up to 200 Premium AI uses a month.
For teams, the picture is less friendly than it used to be. Canva Business costs US$250 per person per year, so a five-person team pays about US$1,250 a year, and removing a paid seat mid-term does not earn a refund. It is worth it if you need shared Brand Kits, team controls and the guarantee that your team content is not used to improve Canva's AI. Small groups who mostly make social posts may be fine with one Pro seat and shared links.
Canva's pricing page lists four main plans, priced in US dollars per year. Prices can differ by region and currency, so check the figure shown at checkout.

Canva's help centre confirms you can choose a monthly or yearly plan, but the pricing page we read only shows yearly prices. Third-party pricing trackers report about US$18 a month for Pro and US$25 per user per month for Business. Treat those as indicative and confirm at checkout; yearly billing is the cheaper route.
In September 2024 TechCrunch reported that some Canva Teams subscribers on older plans saw a five-person plan jump from US$119.99 a year to US$500 a year, with a 40% discount for the first 12 months. Teams moved to US$100 per person a year with a three-person minimum. The change did not affect Pro or Enterprise.
Today Teams is a legacy plan. Canva's help centre is blunt about it: cancelling Canva Teams is permanent, and you cannot resubscribe to Teams afterwards. If you are still on Teams and might want a team plan later, Canva itself suggests switching to Canva Business instead of cancelling.
If your Teams price is lower than Business would be, think twice before cancelling. You cannot get Teams back, and Business is US$250 per person per year.
Canva splits its AI tools into three tiers. Standard AI covers everyday tools, Premium AI covers heavier generation, and Ultra AI covers the most expensive models. Each plan gets a monthly allowance, and Premium and Ultra share the same pool: you can spend it on Premium uses or on a smaller number of Ultra uses.

Some tools, including Translate and Magic Write, can be used abundantly and do not count against the monthly allowance. Free plan allowances reset at midnight UTC on the first of each month; paid plans reset on your billing date.

If you hit the cap every month, Canva sells AI Pass at US$100 per person per month, globally. It gives Pro, Teams and Nonprofits subscribers 40x more AI and Business subscribers 20x more AI, and it also works in Affinity for Pro and Business subscribers. AI Pass is not available on Canva Free, Education, Enterprise, a free trial, a prepaid plan, or subscriptions bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play.
For occasional spikes, Business accounts can buy a one-time AI top-up. Canva describes it as roughly equal to the monthly Business AI allowance and usable within a limited window, so it is a better fit than AI Pass if you only run out once in a while.
At Canva Create on 16 April 2026, Canva announced Canva AI 2.0, available as a research preview on the day with general availability rolling out over the following weeks. The same event brought Canva Offline, new Pro Design tools, a Print Shop with more than 60 new products, and Cavalry, the motion design tool, made free for all Canva account holders.

The main reason to pay is the library. Pro opens 3.6M+ templates, including premium ones, and what Canva describes as 100M+ premium templates, photos, videos, graphics and music. On top of that you get Magic Resize to turn one design into many formats, Background Remover, Brand Kits, social media scheduling and version history.

Business adds what a team needs to stay on brand: 100 Brand Kits, 500GB of storage, double the Premium and Ultra AI allowance of Pro, and team, shared folder and permission controls. The privacy promise matters too: Canva says it does not use business, team or enterprise content to improve its AI-powered features.
Free 5GB, Pro Lite 50GB, Pro 100GB, Business 500GB, Enterprise 1TB.
Canva's Content License Agreement is where most commercial users get caught out. Paid content is licensed for use in a Canva design, not as a stock asset you can resell on its own.
If you plan to register a logo, build it from your own shapes and text (fonts are allowed) rather than from Canva graphics or templates.
Canva's Privacy Policy, last updated 25 August 2026, says you can manage whether your data is used to train AI from the privacy controls page in your privacy settings. Canva Education user content is not used for AI training, and Canva says that for Business and Enterprise accounts it does not use business, team or enterprise content to improve AI features.
If you are on Free or Pro and care about this, open your privacy settings and check the AI training control yourself rather than assuming a default. Creators who publish templates on Canva are paid for AI training and can opt their templates out, under Canva Shield and Canva's US$200 million commitment to content and AI royalties.
Cancelling takes effect at the end of your current billing period and you keep paid features until then. Canva's terms say you are not entitled to a refund of fees already paid, except where the law requires it, and the help centre says that in most cases subscriptions are not refundable, though Canva sometimes helps depending on the situation. Removing seats from a team that have already been paid for also earns no refund or credit.
After a downgrade, all designs remain accessible on Canva Free and your account stays active. On Teams or Business, designs, Brand Kit content and shared folders are retained and the workspace moves to the free plan. If you just need a break, you can pause Pro, Teams or Business for up to 3 months instead of cancelling.
They overlap less than it seems. Canva is built for finished marketing output, social posts, presentations, documents, print and short video, with a stock library doing much of the work. Figma is built for designing interfaces and design systems with developers in the loop. If you produce content, Canva is usually the better buy; if you design apps and websites, read our Figma review before choosing. Many teams end up with both.
Canva Free is US$0, Canva Pro is US$144 a year for one person, and Canva Business is US$250 a year per person. Enterprise is priced on request. Prices are in US dollars and may differ by region.
Pro gives unlimited Standard AI plus up to 200 Premium AI uses or up to 20 Ultra AI uses a month. The allowance resets on your billing date, and Magic Write and Translate do not count against it.
No. Teams is a legacy plan. Existing subscribers can keep it, but once cancelled it cannot be resubscribed. New teams use Canva Business.
Only if you added a payment method. A trial started without payment details ends on its own; one with a card renews into a paid plan unless you cancel before the trial ends, and billing runs on UTC.
Usually not. Cancelling stops future payments and you keep access until the end of the billing period, but fees already paid are not refunded except where the law requires it. App Store purchases are refunded through Apple.
Not with Canva's stock elements. The licence forbids using Canva content in a trademark or business name, fonts excepted, and forbids selling Canva content on its own through print-on-demand products like mugs, t-shirts and posters.
You can control it from the privacy controls page in your settings. Canva says Business and Enterprise team content and Education content are not used for AI training.
Yes, for up to 14 days, but only for editing existing designs. Offline mode is not supported in the iOS and iPad apps or in private browsing windows.
