Technology reviews & practical guides
Boardmix costs $5 per member a month on annual Starter, but AI credits start at $10. We break down the free plan, AI tiers, the $99 lifetime seat, refunds and privacy.

Boardmix pitches itself as an AI whiteboard that does what Miro does for a fraction of the price. The headline numbers back that up: $5 per member per month on annual Starter and a one-time lifetime seat for $99.
We went through the pricing page, comparison table, refund policy, subscription terms and privacy policy as of October 29, 2026 to find out what those prices actually include, where the AI credits are, and which fine print is worth knowing before you pay.
Boardmix is one of the cheapest full-featured online whiteboards you can buy in 2026. The Starter plan is $5 per member per month on annual billing, and a one-time lifetime seat starts at $99. For that you get unlimited boards, mind maps, flowcharts, sticky notes, presentation mode and unlimited visitors with editing rights.
The catch is AI. Starter includes no subscription AI credits at all, so the AI mind maps, flowcharts and agents that Boardmix markets on its homepage need the AI Starter plan ($10 per member per month annually) or AI Business ($20). The free plan is also tight: 3 editable boards with 100 objects each. Add the fact that monthly plans are normally not refunded, AI features send documents to third-party models, and there are no mobile apps, and Boardmix is a strong budget pick for desktop teams rather than a drop-in replacement for every Miro workflow.
Boardmix is a browser-based collaborative whiteboard that combines an infinite canvas with mind maps, flowcharts, diagrams, sticky notes, documents, comments, voting, a timer, video meetings and a presentation mode. Templates cover the usual planning frameworks, and Boardmix layers AI generators on top for mind maps, flowcharts, user journey maps, fishbone diagrams, business model canvases, SWOT, value chains, user personas, SMART goals, BCG matrices, presentations and even resumes.

The product is made by Shenzhen Pixso Technology Co., Ltd, the same company behind the Pixso design tool. Its privacy policy names that Shenzhen company, with an address in the Baidu International Building in Nanshan District, as the data controller. That matters for some buyers, and we cover it in the privacy section below.
There are desktop apps for Windows (Windows 7, 8, 10 and 11) and macOS (10.11 or later), both at version 1.8.6 on the official download page. No iOS or Android app is listed. The homepage also offers an Import from Miro option for teams switching over.
All prices are in US dollars per member. We found no regional pricing. The pricing page has two tabs, Annual and Lifetime. Here is the subscription side, checked on October 29, 2026:
The gap between annual and monthly billing is large. One member on Starter costs $60 a year on annual billing but $144 a year if you pay month to month. AI Starter is $120 versus $190.80, and AI Business is $240 versus $358.80. Combined with the no-refund rule on monthly plans, the monthly option mostly makes sense as a short test.
The $5 Starter plan is the price you see first, but its comparison table says "No extra subscription credits" for AI. If the AI mind map and flowchart generators are why you are looking at Boardmix, budget for AI Starter at $10 per member per month (annual) instead.
Prices have been stable. A Wayback Machine snapshot of the pricing page from August 5, 2026 shows the same $5/$12, $10/$15.9 and $20/$29.9 figures. The one change we found is on Starter: in August it listed 30-day version history, and it now lists 100 version history records. Depending on how often you save, that can be more or less history than before, so check it if version recovery matters to you.
The free plan is a trial in all but name. Beyond the headline limits of 3 editable boards and 100 objects per board, the comparison table adds several restrictions that are easy to miss:
A hundred objects disappears quickly on a real brainstorm, since every sticky note, shape and connector counts. The free plan is fine for trying the editor and the AI generators, but not for running a team workshop.
Boardmix markets "100+ AI Agents Integrated". In practice the AI shows up in three places: one-click generators for diagrams and frameworks (mind maps, flowcharts, SWOT and so on), an AI Assistant on the board that can brainstorm, analyse, paraphrase, translate, change tone, outline and summarize selected content, and an AI Agent panel that uses the whiteboard as context for writing, diagramming, research and image creation.

The AI diagrams agent can generate flowcharts from plain text or from Mermaid and PlantUML code, which is handy for developers who already keep diagrams as code. Boardmix's own product screenshot shows a model selector set to DeepSeek V3.

Credits are the meter. Free accounts get 500 credits once. Starter gets none. AI Starter includes 5,000 credits per seat per month and AI Business 10,000. Lifetime plans include a fixed total pool (10,000 to 200,000 credits depending on the plan) that does not refill monthly. Boardmix does not publish a credit cost per action or a price for buying extra credits, so it is hard to predict how far 5,000 credits goes until you test your own workload.
Several AppSumo reviewers complained that lifetime AI credits do not renew monthly and that the credit value was reduced after purchase. Treat lifetime AI credits as a starter pack, not an ongoing allowance.
Boardmix sells lifetime plans directly on its pricing page, promoted as "up to 80% off" with "no renewal" and future upgrades included. All four tiers include unlimited editable boards:
The struck-through prices next to each tier ($248, $1,240, $2,480 and $4,960) are Boardmix's own comparison figures, not a price we have seen anyone pay, so judge the deal against the subscription instead. A $99 seat equals about 20 months of annual Starter at $60 a year, and it also includes 10,000 AI credits that Starter lacks. If you expect to use Boardmix for more than two years and mainly need the whiteboard, the lifetime seat is the better buy. If you rely on AI every week, AI Starter's 5,000 monthly credits will outlast the one-time pool fast.
Lifetime plans are covered by the same 30-day money-back guarantee as annual plans, which takes much of the risk out of trying one.
The core whiteboard is solid for the price: named live cursors, comments, containers, sticky notes, mind maps, templates, voting, timers and a presentation mode on paid plans. Paid plans allow unlimited visitors with editing rights, which is generous compared with tools that bill every editor as a seat.

Boardmix's homepage graphic shows Jira, Skype, Zoom, Google Drive, Microsoft Teams and Azure, and the privacy policy confirms Google Drive API access. There is no published integration directory with details, so confirm the specific connection you need during a trial. We did not find documented Visio or XMind import; Miro import is the one migration path Boardmix advertises.
The biggest functional gap is mobile. There are no iOS or Android apps, only Windows and Mac desktop apps and the browser. If your team sketches on iPads or reviews boards on phones, that is a real limitation.
Boardmix's privacy policy (dated February 12, 2025) is direct about AI: "If you use other AI features, we will send your original documents to the ChatGPT model for semantic analysis," and AI image generation sends reference images "to the selected AI model for processing". The AI diagrams screenshot also shows DeepSeek V3 as a selectable model, so assume board content you run through AI goes to third-party model providers. We found no statement on whether customer data is used to train models.
The data controller is Shenzhen Pixso Technology Co., Ltd. The policy lists GDPR rights for EU residents, and a Data Processing Agreement takes effect automatically when you accept the terms and use Boardmix in a business context. The service is not intended for anyone under 16.
Boardmix does not publish a data residency statement. Its asset and download hosts point to Alibaba Cloud in Frankfurt, but that is our inference from the site's infrastructure, not a promise about where boards are stored. We also found no ISO 27001 or SOC 2 certification. Teams with procurement checklists should ask Boardmix sales for both before committing; the Enterprise / Private plan is the tier aimed at those buyers.

When a paid plan lapses, every whiteboard in the team becomes read-only for all members and the team drops to the free plan. Boardmix says files are not deleted, but you cannot keep editing more than the free allowance without paying again. Cancelling keeps paid features until the end of the billing period, and if a member leaves, the team keeps the seat it bought.
Public review volume is small. On AppSumo, where a lifetime deal ran and is now sold out, Boardmix holds 4.3 from 167 reviews (114 five-star, 6 one-star). G2 shows roughly 4.5 out of 5 from about 20 reviews, mostly from small businesses, and Capterra about 4.2 from 6 reviews, with ease of use the lowest sub-score at 3.8.
The recurring complaints are consistent: slow technical support (one 2025 reviewer still could not invite team members), AI credits that do not renew on lifetime deals, a feeling that the AI credit value was cut after purchase, and the lack of mobile apps. Praise centres on price and the breadth of the toolset.
Boardmix Starter costs $5 per member per month billed annually or $12 billed monthly. AI Starter is $10 annually or $15.90 monthly, AI Business is $20 annually or $29.90 monthly, and Enterprise is quoted. Lifetime plans start at $99 for one seat.

Yes, within 30 days on annual and lifetime plans, by emailing [email protected] with your order number. Monthly plans are normally not refunded once the billing period has started.
They become read-only. The team is downgraded to the free plan and all whiteboards are locked for editing, but Boardmix says the files are not deleted.
Yes, when you use AI features. The privacy policy says documents are sent to the ChatGPT model for analysis, and the AI diagrams tool also offers DeepSeek V3. Content you never run through AI is not described as being shared this way.
No. Boardmix offers desktop apps for Windows and macOS plus the web app, but no iOS or Android app.
Boardmix is made by Shenzhen Pixso Technology Co., Ltd, a Shenzhen, China company that also makes the Pixso design tool. It is the data controller named in the privacy policy.
