Mural review 2026: Team+ and Business pricing, the 3-mural Free plan limit, Mural AI with no published credits, MCP preview, security and no-refund billing.

Mural has been one of the two big names in online whiteboarding for years, and 2026 changed a lot about what each plan gets you: a stricter Free plan in June, a redesigned Mural AI in July and a Mural MCP preview that connects boards to ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor in September and October.
This review covers what you actually get on Free, Team+, Business and Enterprise, how Mural's member, visitor and guest model affects what you pay, and the billing terms (no refunds, auto-renewal) that are worth knowing before you spend $9.99 to $17.99 per member per month.
Mural is a mature, well-secured visual collaboration workspace that is strongest for structured workshops: retrospectives, design sprints, planning sessions and anything a facilitator needs to run on a timer. Its paid plans are fairly priced at $9.99 (Team+) and $17.99 (Business) per member per month billed annually, and Mural AI is bundled into every paid plan with no published credit system.
The weak spots are commercial rather than technical. The Free plan now keeps only your three most recently created murals editable, payments are non-refundable, and the terms let Mural change prices at any time. If you are buying for a team, read the billing section below before you click Buy.
Best for: facilitated workshops and teams that already live in Microsoft 365 or Teams. Skip it if: you only need a free whiteboard for many active boards, or you need HIPAA coverage, which Mural does not claim.
Mural is made by Tactivos, Inc., which trades as Mural, and its terms are governed by California law. It is an infinite-canvas whiteboard ("murals") organised into rooms and workspaces, with sticky notes, shapes, diagrams, 250+ expert templates and a strong set of facilitation tools.
Mural also owns LUMA Institute, a human-centred design training company, which is where the "LUMA frameworks" on the Business plan come from. That heritage shows: Mural is built less as a free-form drawing tool and more as a place to run a structured session with a group.
Every plan, including Free, gets the facilitation "superpowers": a timer, voting, private mode, summon (pull everyone to where you are), a laser pointer and facilitator lock.
Mural charges per member, meaning per person who belongs to your workspace. These are the list prices on mural.co/pricing as of October 22, 2026:
Payment options widen as you go up: Team+ is credit card only, Business adds invoice and bank transfer, and Enterprise adds other options. Support follows the same ladder, from self-serve on Free to standard on Team+, chat, email and priority support on Business, and paid premier support on Enterprise.
Enterprise pricing is quote-only. As a rough third-party guide, procurement platform Vendr reports that enterprise deployments with hundreds of users typically land between $50,000 and $250,000+ per year. Treat that as an estimate, not a Mural price.

In the week of June 9, 2026 Mural changed how the Free plan limits work. In Mural's words: "On the Free plan, the three most recently created murals remain editable. Older murals stay accessible as view-only."
The upside is that you no longer have to archive old murals before creating new ones; everything stays visible. The downside is that the limit is strict: create a fourth mural and your oldest editable one turns read-only. Older guides that mention five free murals or an archive-to-free-up-space workflow are out of date.
Free also has no Mural AI, no private rooms, no guests and no SSO, and visitors can only view. It is good for trying the product or running the occasional session, not for a team's day-to-day work.
Mural's seat model is generous once you understand its three types of user, and confusing until you do.
In practice, a team that runs workshops with clients can often buy seats only for its own staff and bring participants in as visitors. Mural's pricing page also promises "Never get billed retroactively."
Mural AI covers mind mapping, clustering and organising sticky notes, summaries and synthesis, sentiment analysis and classification, and AI-assisted ideation. It also works with Microsoft 365 Copilot. A redesigned Mural AI experience began rolling out in phases on July 21, 2026.
Mural says AI "is currently included with Team+, Business, and Enterprise plans." There is no published credit system or usage cap, which is a real difference from Miro's AI credits (see our Miro review). Note the wording, though: Mural "may update pricing, usage limits, or plan eligibility as its AI capabilities evolve," so "no published cap" is not the same as a guaranteed unlimited allowance.
On training data, Mural states that it does not use customer content, or let others use it, to train or develop machine-learning models.
On September 8, 2026 Mural opened Mural MCP in public preview, connecting murals to AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor. It started with members of paid workspaces and was extended to Free plan users on October 13, 2026. It is still a preview, so expect changes.

Mural's integration list leans heavily on Microsoft: Teams, Microsoft 365, Copilot, Entra ID, Planner, Defender, Outlook, OneDrive and PowerPoint. Beyond that it connects to Asana, Azure DevOps, Confluence, Jira, Figma, Google Workspace, Okta, Rally, Salesforce, Slack, Splunk, Webex, Zoom, Zapier, Airtable, Dropbox, GitHub and Linear.
Recent additions include upgraded Jira Cloud and Azure DevOps integrations for Business and Enterprise (June 30, 2026), Linear and GitHub integrations (September 8, 2026) and live embeds inside murals for Free, Team+ and Business (September 29, 2026), with Enterprise following in October.

Mural runs in the browser and has apps for iOS (iPhone and iPad), Android, Windows and macOS, plus support for interactive displays such as Surface Hub.

Security is one of Mural's strengths. Its trust page lists SOC 2 Type 2, SOC 3, ISO 27001 and ISO 42001 (the AI management standard) certifications, Microsoft SSPA certification, and support for GDPR and CCPA compliance. Mural also says it was the first visual collaboration company to sign the EU AI Pact.
By default, customer data is stored in the United States on Microsoft Azure. Data residency (choosing where a workspace's data lives) and bring-your-own-key encryption are Enterprise features. Mural does not claim HIPAA compliance anywhere, so do not use it for protected health information.
Admin controls also grew in 2026, including a setting for multiple identity providers and a company insights dashboard, both released in August.

These terms come from Mural's Terms of Service, effective July 1, 2026. They matter more than any feature list.
Mural publishes no first-party trial length, so start on Free or Team+ monthly ($12) before committing to an annual plan. An annual prepayment you regret cannot be refunded, and downgrading only takes effect at renewal.
Mural rates well on review sites: 4.6 out of 5 from 1,489 reviews on G2 (as of an October 10, 2026 snapshot) and 4.5 out of 5 from 135 reviews on Capterra (as of an April 2026 snapshot), where it scored 4.4 for ease of use, 4.2 for value for money and 4.4 for customer service.
Value for money is the lowest of those sub-scores, which fits the pricing picture: the product is well liked, but the Free plan is tight and paid seats add up for larger teams.
Both are capable infinite-canvas tools. Mural's edge is facilitation, its free visitor model and bundled AI with no published credit system on paid plans. Miro has a larger template and app ecosystem and meters AI with credits. If your work is mostly running workshops, Mural is the more focused choice; read our Miro review for the other side.
Team+ costs $9.99 per member per month billed annually or $12 billed monthly, and Business costs $17.99 per member per month billed annually. Enterprise is priced by quote, and the Free plan is $0 for unlimited members.
Three. Since June 2026 your three most recently created murals stay editable and older ones become view-only, though they remain accessible.
It is not on the Free plan, but it is included at no extra charge on Team+, Business and Enterprise. Mural publishes no credit system or cap, but reserves the right to change usage limits and eligibility.
Usually not. Visitors invited to specific murals are free on every plan and can edit on Team+ and above. Business and Enterprise also include unlimited workspace guests.
No. The terms say payments and prepaid fees are non-refundable. If you cancel, you keep access until the end of the paid term, and downgrades take effect at renewal without credit.
No. Mural states that it does not use customer content, or permit others to use it, to train or develop machine-learning models.
Data is stored in the United States on Microsoft Azure by default, with data residency available on Enterprise. Mural does not claim HIPAA compliance.
Yes, through Mural MCP, which is in public preview. It opened to paid workspaces on September 8, 2026 and to Free plan users on October 13, 2026.
