Technology reviews & practical guides
Kittl reviewed as of October 2026: what Free, Pro ($15), Expert ($35) and Max ($65) actually buy in AI tokens, exports and licence rights, plus the no-refund policy and the Free-plan catches.

Kittl is a Berlin-made design editor that grew up around typography and merch templates and now sells itself as an AI design tool. Plans run from free to $65 a month, and almost everything that separates them comes down to AI tokens, export quality and how many copies of a design you may sell.
This review covers what each plan includes as of October 2026, how far the tokens really stretch, what the licence lets you do commercially, and the fine print on privacy and refunds.
Kittl started as a browser-based design editor built around typography, templates and merch-ready graphics. Its founders, Tobias Saul and Nicolas Heymann, came out of Heritage Type Co., which explains why the editor has always been strong on lettering and vintage-style layouts. The company is Kittl Technologies GmbH in Berlin, and its contracts run under German law.
In 2026 the pitch changed. The pricing page now describes every plan by how much AI it gives you, and the year brought a run of AI launches: the Business plan was renamed Max around May, Agentic AI arrived in beta in July, an MCP connector for outside assistants was documented in September, and a Creative Agent launched in October. The design editor is still there, but Kittl now sells itself first as an AI design tool.
Scale claims vary by page. The about page says Kittl has over 120 employees, over $45 million in funding and "over 5 million users worldwide", while the pricing page says "Trusted by 10M+ creatives". The funding rounds we could confirm are an $11 million Series A and a $36 million Series B led by IVP, announced in January 2024.

Kittl has four plans, priced in US dollars before tax. Yearly billing works out cheaper per month on every paid tier.
Max is the old Business plan under a new name; Kittl's help center says existing Business subscribers were moved to Max automatically. A few Kittl pages still use the old name, so if you see "Business" in an FAQ, read it as Max.
Prices are per Editor. In a team, only Editors are paid seats; Viewers are free, and seats are prorated when you add or remove Editors. AI tokens are pooled and shared across all Editors in the team.
At the time of writing, a Kittl blog post dated 15 October 2026 advertises "25% off your monthly plan or up to 45% off annual on Pro and Expert." It is a promotion, not the list price, and it does not cover Max. Check the checkout total before paying.
The Free plan is "free forever. No trial period, no expiry." It is a real editor, but a narrow one: PNG or JPG exports up to 800px at 72dpi, five active projects, 500MB of uploads, no premium templates, mockups, fonts or elements, and 100 one-time AI tokens. Designs are for personal use only, and every AI image you generate is public in the AI Gallery.
Pro is where Kittl becomes a working tool. Exports go up to 10,800px at 300dpi, plus vector PDF and SVG with transparent backgrounds. You get every premium template, mockup, font, graphic and photo, custom font uploads, unlimited projects, custom artboard sizes, 10GB of storage and 2,000 AI tokens a month. Commercial use is allowed up to 500,000 copies per design.
Expert keeps Pro's exports, asset library and licence, adds Brand Kits, raises storage to 100GB and gives 6,000 monthly tokens plus 200 daily tokens. It is also the only plan that can buy extra tokens from inside the editor.
Max raises tokens to 12,000 a month plus 600 a day, storage to 1TB, and swaps the standard licence for an Enhanced License with no copy limit. That last point, not the tokens, is the main reason a business printing at volume would pay for it.
On a mobile browser, exports are capped at 4,096 x 4,096px whatever plan you are on. Kittl runs in the browser, so plan to do final high-resolution exports from a desktop.
Every AI feature that calls an outside model is paid for in tokens. Kittl's homepage lists models from OpenAI (ChatGPT Image 2, ChatGPT Image 1HD, GPT Alpha, DALL-E 3), Google (Veo 3.1, Nano Banana 2, Nano Banana Pro 4K), ByteDance (Seedance 2.0, Seedream 5.0 Lite, Seedream 4.5), Ideogram, Recraft, Black Forest Labs' Flux family and Kling Video 3.0 Pro. The default image model is ChatGPT Image 2.

Kittl quotes Expert as 12,000 tokens a month and Max as 30,000. Those totals assume you collect the daily allowance every day: Expert is 6,000 monthly plus 200 daily, Max is 12,000 monthly plus 600 daily. Daily tokens reset at midnight UTC and do not carry over, so someone who designs two days a week gets far fewer tokens than the headline figure. Pro has no daily allowance, just 2,000 a month.
Kittl does not publish a fixed rate card and says costs "can change as model pricing changes, so treat any specific number as an estimate." The examples it does give:
At those rates, Pro's 2,000 tokens is roughly 100 Agentic AI images or about 16 short Veo Fast clips a month. Video eats tokens quickly; anyone planning regular AI video should look at Expert or Max.
Two AI tools cost no tokens at all and work on every plan, including Free: the AI Background Remover and the AI Vectorizer. The vectorizer turns raster images into editable vectors with up to 16 colours, which is exactly what merch and print-on-demand sellers need, and it is one of the strongest reasons to try Kittl even on the Free plan.

Image editing tools sit in the context menu next to Vectorize: Edit Area, Erase & Fill, Upscale and Reframe. These call AI models and draw on your token balance.

Agentic AI, in beta since July, builds images and video from a brief; Kittl warns that "Access will be limited once beta ends." The Creative Agent, launched in October 2026, is a chat assistant on every plan including Free, and Kittl says simple conversations use "only a fraction of a token." The MCP connector lets outside assistants such as Claude or ChatGPT work with Kittl, but Kittl itself notes "There's no one-click connector for Claude or ChatGPT yet", so it needs manual setup.
An expanded Monotype partnership, announced on 5 August 2026, lets Monotype customers use their organisation's brand and subscription fonts inside Kittl. For print-on-demand sellers, Kittl exports ready-to-list files for Printify, Printful, Etsy, Amazon and Shopify. That is file export, not a live sync with those stores.
This is the part to read before you sell anything made in Kittl.
The licensing page says Free-plan content is "strictly limited to personal, non-commercial use." A help center article on AI design rights says Free users can sell designs if they add "provided by Kittl". The licence is the binding document, so if you plan to sell, use a paid plan.
On the Free plan every AI image you generate is public and appears in the Explore tab of the AI Gallery. Anything you publish to the Kittl community goes further: the licence says rights in that content "vest in and belong solely and entirely to Kittl", including for "the training of artificial intelligence models."
Private work is treated differently. Kittl says that if you do not share content publicly it uses your uploads only to run the editor for you, and we found no clause allowing AI training on private uploads. The privacy policy notes that data is transferred outside Europe, including to Canada and the United States.
The practical advice: start monthly, use it for a full cycle, and only then switch to yearly. A yearly plan you stop using is money you will not get back.
Kittl scores 4.7 out of 5 on Trustpilot from about 1,261 reviews as of 20 October 2026. Praise centres on the templates and how quickly the editor produces polished, print-ready work. The complaints that recur are about the AI side: edits that ignore instructions, credits that were not refunded after a system error, and rigid plan changes.
Kittl is a strong pick for merch sellers, print-on-demand shops and small brands who want polished typographic designs fast. The template library, the token-free vectorizer and background remover, and vector exports on Pro do most of the work, and Pro at $15 a month (or $12 on yearly billing) is the plan most people need.
Be more careful if you are buying it for AI. Tokens are capped, costs per model are estimates that can change, video burns through allowances quickly, and Expert and Max headline totals depend on logging in every day. Max only makes sense if you need the unlimited licence or heavy daily AI use.
Pro is $15 a month, Expert $35 and Max $65, in US dollars before tax. Yearly billing brings them to $144, $312 and $576 a year ($12, $26 and $48 a month). A Free plan is available with no time limit.
Not safely. The licensing page limits Free-plan content to personal, non-commercial use, even though one help article suggests selling is fine with a "provided by Kittl" credit. For anything commercial, use Pro or higher.
No. Plan tokens reset each month on your purchase date, and daily tokens on Expert and Max reset at midnight UTC. Only tokens you buy separately never expire.
There is no free trial of paid plans and no refund policy. Cancelling stops renewal at the end of the billing period, and Kittl says refunds are generally not provided, though you can ask support about exceptions.
Only content you publish to the Kittl community, according to its licence, which hands Kittl the rights to that content including for AI training. Private uploads are used only to run the editor. On Free, AI images you generate are public in the AI Gallery.
Max has six times Pro's monthly tokens plus 600 daily tokens (up to 30,000 a month against Pro's 2,000), 1TB of storage instead of 10GB, and an Enhanced License with no copy limit. Pro caps each design at 500,000 copies or viewers.
Kittl runs in the browser, including mobile browsers, but mobile exports are capped at 4,096 x 4,096px on every plan. Use a desktop browser for full-resolution print files.

Plan tokens do not roll over. Monthly tokens reset on your purchase anniversary date, for both monthly and yearly plans. Extra tokens can be bought on Pro, Expert and Max (not Free) and those purchased tokens never expire; Expert users can buy from inside the editor, others go through Plan & Billing. Kittl's pricing FAQ is less generous and names only Expert and Max for top-ups, and we could not find top-up pack prices on any Kittl page. If a generation fails, Kittl says the tokens are refunded automatically.
Kittl's own pages disagree on what 100 Free tokens buy. The tokens article says "enough to generate up to 10 standard images"; the Free plan article suggests up to 100 images. Expect the lower figure and treat anything more as a bonus.
