OVHcloud Review 2026: VPS, Public Cloud and Bare-Metal Pricing After the Price Rises

Quick verdict

OVHcloud is still one of the best-value places to rent raw compute in Europe and North America, especially if you want unmetered VPS traffic or a dedicated server without paying hyperscaler prices. It is not the bargain it was in 2025, and the headline prices on the website need careful reading.

• Best for: developers and small teams who want cheap VPS or bare metal, unmetered bandwidth outside Asia-Pacific, and EU data residency.
• Watch out for: 'from' prices that assume 12 months paid upfront, a VPS-1 that now has 2 vCores and 4 GB RAM, possible ID checks on new orders, and support that is basic unless you pay for it.
• Entry price: VPS-1 2027 at $5.35/month (EUR 4.49) with no commitment, or $4.54/month (EUR 3.81) when you prepay 12 months.
• Free trial: $200 of Public Cloud credit for accounts that have never created a Public Cloud project.

VPS pricing: the 2027 range

OVHcloud's current VPS lineup is branded 'VPS 2027'. The US site puts it plainly: 'There is a new VPS-1 entry-level model, and the configurations for the other models have shifted.' Here is what each plan includes and what it costs per month in USD, from OVH's public order catalog:

• VPS-1: 2 vCores, 4 GB RAM, 40 GB NVMe, 500 Mbps - $5.35 no commitment, $5.08 on 6 months upfront, $4.54 on 12 months upfront.
• VPS-2: 4 vCores, 8 GB RAM, 75 GB NVMe, 1 Gbps - $10.00 / $9.50 / $8.50.
• VPS-3: 6 vCores, 12 GB RAM, 100 GB NVMe, 2 Gbps - $14.50 / $13.77 / $12.32.
• VPS-4: 8 vCores, 24 GB RAM, 200 GB NVMe, 3 Gbps - $27.50 / $26.12 / $23.37.

In euros the same ladder is EUR 4.49 / 4.26 / 3.81 for VPS-1, EUR 8.49 / 8.06 / 7.21 for VPS-2, EUR 12.24 / 11.62 / 10.40 for VPS-3 and EUR 23.49 / 22.31 / 19.96 for VPS-4. There is no setup fee and no 24-month VPS term.

What the new VPS-1 really means

The old VPS-1 (VPS 2026 range) had 4 vCores, 8 GB RAM and 75 GB NVMe. That spec cost EUR 4.49 per month before April 2026 and EUR 6.49 after the April increase. In the 2027 range the same spec is VPS-2, at EUR 8.49 with no commitment. The EUR 4.49 price is back, but it now buys 2 vCores, 4 GB RAM and 40 GB of storage.

The same shift happens one step up: the 6 vCore, 12 GB, 100 GB machine that was VPS-2 2026 at EUR 9.99 is now VPS-3 2027 at EUR 12.24. If you are comparing OVHcloud with an older review, check the vCore and RAM figures, not the plan name.

Why prices went up in 2026

In a March 2026 blog post, founder Octave Klaba tied the increases to memory costs: 'Current projections anticipate a 250% to 300% increase in the price of RAM by the end of 2026, compared to September 2025.' OVHcloud said it would not pass the full rise on, and that for cloud capacity deployed between 2026 and 2028 'the average price increase will be limited - between 9% and 11%'.

VPS customers saw far more than 9-11%. The April 2026 table lists these monthly prices for the VPS 2026 range, new versus old:

• VPS-1: EUR 6.49 (was 4.49)
• VPS-2: EUR 9.99 (was 6.99)
• VPS-3: EUR 19.99 (was 13.99)
• VPS-4: EUR 36.99 (was 24.99)
• VPS-5: EUR 54.99 (was 36.99)
• VPS-6: EUR 72.99 (was 48.99)
• Additional IPv4: EUR 2.00 (was 1.50)

Public Cloud hourly rates rose by smaller amounts - for example b3-8 went from EUR 0.0465 to EUR 0.0512 per hour, and c3-4 from EUR 0.0415 to EUR 0.0457. OVHcloud said new prices apply only at the end of the current contractual period.

Dedicated servers: new rates at renewal from 1 October 2026

A second bare-metal repricing landed in the second half of the year. New prices applied to new orders from 11 August 2026, and from 1 October 2026 'new rates apply to servers already running, taking effect on the subscription renewal date.' The scope is Advance (Gen 2024 and 2026), Game (Gen 2026), and Scale and High Grade (Gen 2024 and 2026). OVHcloud adds: 'If you have an outstanding commitment Nothing changes until it ends.' Kimsufi and Rise are not named in that scope.

What's still included

The part of the OVHcloud offer that survived the price changes is the bundle. Every VPS includes:

• Unlimited traffic outside Asia-Pacific.
• Anti-DDoS protection, which OVHcloud says is 'deployed by default on all products'.
• A dedicated IPv4 address plus IPv6.
• A daily automatic backup, kept 'on a rolling 7-day basis', exported and replicated three times within the same data centre. Additional disks are excluded. A Premium automatic backup option exists, but no price was listed.
• A 99.9% SLA, per OVHcloud's VPS FAQ.

These are unmanaged servers. OVHcloud states that 'the administrator of a VPS is responsible for the security of the applications and data hosted on it' - patching, firewalls and off-site backups are your job.

Public Cloud: pricing, free credit and egress

OVHcloud Public Cloud is the pay-as-you-go side of the business: instances billed hourly or monthly, plus managed Kubernetes, object and block storage, databases and private networking (vRack). Sample instance prices in USD, ex VAT:

• Discovery d2-2: 1 vCore, 2 GB RAM, 25 GB, 100 Mbit/s - $0.0123/hour or $6.74/month.
• General purpose b3-8: 2 vCores, 8 GB RAM - $0.0605/hour, about $44.17/month.
• Compute c3-4: 2 vCores, 4 GB RAM - $0.054/hour, about $39.42/month.
• Memory r3-16: 2 vCores, 16 GB RAM - $0.0783/hour, about $57.16/month.

A VPS is far cheaper for the same RAM, so Public Cloud makes sense when you need hourly billing, autoscaling, Kubernetes or the managed services around it, not when you want a single always-on box.

Egress, IPs and snapshots

Outbound public traffic is included on Public Cloud instances in every location except Singapore, Sydney and Mumbai, where each project gets 1 TB per month and pays per GB above that. Standard DDoS protection is included and instances come with an IPv4 address, except Local Zone instances. An extra IPv4 or floating IP costs $0.00319/hour (about $2.33/month), and volume snapshots cost about $0.048 per GB per month.

$200 free credit and Savings Plans

New Public Cloud users get $200 of credit. It is only for customers who have not created a Public Cloud project before, and the voucher must be activated when you create your first project. For steady workloads, Savings Plans cut B3, C3 and R3 instance prices by 15% on a 12-month term and 30% on a 36-month term.

Bare-metal servers: Kimsufi to High Grade

Dedicated servers are where OVHcloud is hardest to match. The current ranges are Kimsufi (T1/T2), Rise, Advance (T3), Game (T3), Scale (T4) and High Grade (T5). The old So you Start brand no longer appears as a range. Listed prices are for a 1-month commitment, with discounts for 12- or 24-month prepayment.

• Kimsufi KS-B (Intel Xeon E5-1620v2): $11.10/month plus an $11.10 setup fee with no commitment (EUR 9.99 + EUR 9.99). Prepaying 12 months costs $126.54 with no setup fee. KS-C is $13.30/month.
• Rise-1 (Xeon-E 2386G, 32-128 GB RAM): $64/month plus a $64 installation fee.
• Advance-1 2024 (AMD EPYC 4244P): from $136/month plus $136 installation. The Gen 2026 Advance-1 (EPYC 4245P) is $189/month.

Kimsufi machines use older hardware and are best treated as cheap storage, backup or hobby boxes. Rise and Advance are the realistic choices for production. Note the setup fees on monthly terms - they are waived when you prepay a year on Kimsufi.

Ordering, billing and support

Order validation can delay your first server

New orders can be held for verification. OVHcloud may ask for 'a government-issued photo ID' and 'a picture of the credit card used in the transaction', and you have about 48 hours to send them before the order is cancelled. If an order is declined, the card preauthorization is reversed. Some users report new orders sitting in 'preparing' for a day or more, so do not sign up the night before a launch.

Payment and cancellation

US accounts can pay by Visa, Mastercard, American Express or PayPal, with wire transfer for Hosted Private Cloud. You can cancel a VPS at its expiry date or immediately, but a cancellation under a commitment only takes effect when the commitment ends. There is no general money-back guarantee; moving or refunding remaining VPS time 'requires a request to our support team'.

Support tiers

• Standard: included with every service.
• Premium: $56/month on a 12-month subscription.
• Business: 10% of your monthly OVHcloud bill, minimum $300/month.
• Enterprise: quote only.

Standard support is ticket-based and the help center is thorough, but if downtime costs you money, factor Premium into the real monthly price.

Reliability, footprint and the 2021 fire

OVHcloud reports 46 data centres on 4 continents, 31 Local Zones, 44 points of presence and 100 Tbps of network capacity, and it owns and builds its own hardware. In September 2026 its SNC Cloud Platform gained France's SecNumCloud qualification, which matters to public-sector and regulated buyers who need a European provider outside US jurisdiction.

The incident buyers still ask about is the fire at the Strasbourg (SBG) site on the night of 9-10 March 2021, which destroyed one building and took customer data with it. A Lille commercial court ordered OVHcloud in 2023 to pay about EUR 250,000 to two customers who lost data; in April 2025 the Douai Court of Appeal overturned one of those awards. A class action involving around 140 customers has also been reported.

Who should choose OVHcloud

• Choose OVHcloud if you want a dedicated server at a price hyperscalers cannot touch, unmetered VPS bandwidth in Europe or North America, or a European provider for data-residency reasons.
• Look elsewhere if you need fast human support without paying extra, a frictionless sign-up, or the polished developer experience of platforms like DigitalOcean, Vultr or Linode.
• Compare carefully against Hetzner if you are in Europe: both compete on price-to-hardware, and the 2026 OVHcloud increases narrowed its lead on small VPS plans.

Frequently asked questions

How much does the cheapest OVHcloud VPS cost?

VPS-1 2027 costs $5.35 (EUR 4.49) per month with no commitment, ex VAT. The $4.54 (EUR 3.81) price shown on the site requires paying 12 months upfront. It includes 2 vCores, 4 GB RAM and 40 GB NVMe.

Did OVHcloud raise its prices in 2026?

Yes. VPS 2026 prices rose about 45% in April 2026 (VPS-1 from EUR 4.49 to EUR 6.49), Public Cloud hourly rates rose around 10%, and dedicated servers were repriced for new orders on 11 August 2026 and for existing Advance, Game, Scale and High Grade servers at renewal from 1 October 2026.

Is OVHcloud VPS traffic really unlimited?

Yes, outside Asia-Pacific. In Mumbai, Singapore and Sydney each VPS has a monthly quota from 500 GB to 3 TB, after which speed drops to 10 Mbps.

Does OVHcloud have a free trial?

Public Cloud has $200 of free credit for customers creating their first Public Cloud project. VPS and dedicated servers have no free trial.

Can I get a refund from OVHcloud?

Not automatically. There is no general money-back guarantee, and refunding remaining VPS time needs a support request. If your order is declined at validation, the card preauthorization is reversed.

Why is OVHcloud asking for my ID?

It is part of order validation against fraud. OVHcloud may request a government photo ID and a picture of the card used, and cancels the order if documents are not sent within about 48 hours.

Are OVHcloud backups enough after the Strasbourg fire?

No, not on their own. The daily VPS backup is kept for 7 days and replicated within the same data centre, so keep a separate off-site copy of critical data.

Key takeaways

• VPS-1 2027 is $5.35 / EUR 4.49 per month with no commitment, but it is a 2 vCore, 4 GB RAM plan - the old 4 vCore, 8 GB spec is now VPS-2 at EUR 8.49.
• Headline 'from' VPS prices on ovhcloud.com assume 12 months paid upfront.
• Unlimited VPS traffic, anti-DDoS, IPv4 and a daily backup are still included; Asia-Pacific locations have traffic quotas.
• Existing Advance, Game, Scale and High Grade dedicated servers move to new prices at renewal from 1 October 2026.
• New Public Cloud users get $200 credit; Savings Plans cut instance prices 15-30%.
• Expect possible ID checks on new orders and budget for Premium support ($56/month) if you need faster help.
